Alvar Roosimaa, CIO, and Paavo Põld, head of business development, attended the Responsible Investor conference on Sustainable Emerging Market Investing on March 3rd in London. The presence of 160 delegates showed the high interest of investors in sustainability factors in emerging markets investing.
Alvar Roosimaa, fund manager of Limestone New Europe SRI fund, commented: „ It was uplifting to see that the investor community is accepting the notion that sustainability factors should be an integrated part of any investment process. Limestone has always strived to fully integrate ESG research with our traditional financial analysis. I agree that the breakthru of this mindset will be one of the defining moments in how we invest.“
He continued: „I also found it very exciting that the high growth in New EU member states is not anymore associated with poor legal and regulatory framework, high political risk and other typical emerging market risk factors. In fact the charts presented by Alyson Warhurst from Maplecroft showed similar risk levels in new EU member states to those of Western Europe. Perhaps Eastern Europe is emerging only growthwise, and not on the associated risk level“
