Kambanite Business Center (KBC), the flagship development of Bulgarian Real Estate Fund (BREF), has been praised by a regional case study by Colliers International for the holistic design strategy and installed technologies that opt at the energy efficiency. Located in the outskirts of Sofia, the project was praised for ideal orientation, high performance fenestration strategy, and general building envelope. BREF (Bloomberg: 5BU BU) has been one of the key holdings in Limestone New Europe SRI fund since early 2009. Limestone has developed a good working relationship with BREF management over years and the team has been covering the company since its debut on Bulgarian Stock Exchange in 2005. BREF is a fine example how Limestone team identifies and encourages companies that are leaders in environmental and other sustainability related policies. The fund manager and Limestone Head of Research last visited BREF management and Kambanite in early May 2010 and the fund has further increased its stake since. Kambanite project is now completed with office part majority rented out to Hewlett Packard, and retail section sold to Hyundai dealer in 2007. | Download (.pdf, 2.3MB) | | |

| Green Building is the practice of creating structures and using processes that are environmentally responsible and resource-efficient throughout a building's life-cycle: from siting to design, construction, operation, maintenance, renovation, and deconstruction. This practice expands and complements the classical building design concerns of economy, utility, durability, and comfort. Green building practices aim to reduce the environmental impact of buildings. Buildings account for a large amount of land use, energy and water consumption, and air and atmosphere alteration. Considering the statistics, reducing the amount of natural resources buildings consume and the amount of pollution given off is seen as crucial for future sustainability |
